In 1995, Smt. Vidyawati Verma carried out a string of social service activities in memory of Dr. Sitaram Verma who was an eminent doctor and social activist, in Vijayhata, Siwan. After this initial movement was encouraged by one and all, Prakash Kiran was conceived in the year 2000 for the underprivileged. It is small step taken towards eradicating theses social evils from our society once and for all. As a social welfare organisation it also takes care of the educational needs of young women, adults and children so that they are not forced to grow up as illiterates.

Prakash Kiran has been actively involves in arranging cataract operations for the needy, organizing cultural programmes, promoting handicrafts in the region and most importantly conducting free eye & ladies health camps. Besides, it also believes in supporting people to become self-sufficient through vocational guidance, thereby benefiting the community as a whole.

Prakash Kiran is also currently working towards the upliftment of long lost art called handicrafts. They are trying to make a small time business model for the bamboo shoot artefacts (also called dolchi & dauri in local language), madhubani art, wall hangings, appliqué products, embroidery etc. They are trying to bring it to the metros and mini metros as it can add ethnicity to your living room and are eco-friendly too. It is also specialising women in tailoring with a crash course in supply management to make them self-reliant and independent.

Prakash Kiran is also working with local artistes of sericulture weaving community in Bhagalpur and is providing them with innovative technologies. Recently, with a view to absorb the vast agiculture potential of Bihar, we had been also working upon the medicinal/aromatic plantation. We had organised a seminar for the awareness of the farmer in this sector, with the support of experts and scientists from Pusa Agriculture University and ‘Sustainable Development Forum’ of the Institute of Engineers. Right now a herbarium has been created at Siwan cultivating the samples of biodeisel, lemongrass, pamarosa, oal, ginger, termurric, satawar, aamla etc.
